Mental, Behavioral and Substance use disorders have emerged as a growing public health concern in our country and are associated with high rates of morbidity and burden. Due to lack of awareness and the prevailing stigma, these disorders are often neglected and fail to receive adequate care and treatment they need.
The Department of Psychiatry a is envisioned as a Centre of Excellence and aims to:
Provide comprehensive, holistic, evidence based mental healthcare services of the highest standard, while adopting the bio-psycho-social model of care for the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment, including rehabilitation of various psychiatric disorders.
Provide patient-centric and rights-based mental healthcare which will be accessible and affordable for all
Train and teach students with emphasis on the development of clinical skills, communication and empathy.
Conduct quality and ethical research for the growth of scientific knowledge and its application.
Conduct awareness programs, CMEs and training programs for the promotion of mental health literacy, positive mental health and well-being and to end stigma associated with mental illnesses and their treatment.
